Melting Shea Butter

Due to the inherent nature of shea butter, the whipping process during production, and Exousia’s formula which does not include synthetic stabilizers or beeswax, our Whipped Shea Butter Souffle´ is highly sensitive to temperature higher than 70 degrees.  During very warm weather, whipped shea butter may soften or melt during transit from sitting in warm delivery trucks and mailboxes.

Shea butter melts naturally in response to heat. Unfortunately, we have no control over the weather or conditions during transit and delivery.  We are taking responsibility to be transparent about our product’s natural reaction to heat, to educated and better equip our loyal customers with tips to recover and store your whipped shea butter when melting occurs during shipping.

WHY DOES THE SHEA BUTTER MELT?

Many commercial products contain phthalates to stabilize and maintain viscosity (thickness); cocamide DEA, MEA to thicken, stabilize and emulsify; petroleum-based oils and waxes to thicken and stabilize; and other additives to maintain consistency through various temperature changes. Our natural products do not contain ANY of these.

Our Whipped Shea Butter Souffle´ is high in natural oils and butter formulated to be a soft fluffy solid at room temperature. Once applied skin, it instantly melts to nourish the skin.  The quality and benefits of shea butter are not affected by melting.

WHAT TO DO ABOUT MELTING

If you receive your order on sunny or warm days when the temperature is higher than 70 degrees (especially if the product remained outdoors more than 15 minutes), it is best to refrigerate BEFORE opening the jars.  If you open items, check if melting has occurred, they may spill out and make a mess!

Place it in the freezer for approximately 15 minutes. Melting doesn’t affect the quality of our Whipped Shea Butter Souffle´ as a great moisturizer, however it does deflate the whipped consistency making the product become more like a body balm.  Whipping adds tiny air bubbles (just like whipping cream) that increase the size, lightens the density and changes the texture, making the butter light and fluffy. If a whipped product melts, the air bubbles are collapsed, so the volume is decreased.  Although the jar was filled to the top during packaging, if the butter melts, there will be less volume in the container making it look half full.  We assure you, it’s the same weighted product minus the fluff.

WHAT WE ARE DOING TO HELP

We do our best to protect our products from melting during transit by checking every product before it is packed for shipping; and we wrap our delicate products in bubble wrap to add another layer of insulation.

Please understand that there is no low-cost way to ship our products during the high heat temperatures of summer, trucks and mailboxes and that melting may occur.

Thank you for being a loyal customer!
